Building a brilliant future for youth of the Bronx

Caterpillar Homework Club

The Caterpillar Homework Club program is designed to provide students in the community with an educational, fun, interactive, and engaging after-school learning experience. This a free after-school program offered Monday through Thursday, 3-5pm, and is provided to students in Pre-K to 8th grade. College interns assist the students in a 2:1 ratio with academic success and reading help. The Caterpillar Homework college interns are enrolled students from a variety of different colleges ranging from Fordham University, Monroe College, Lehman College, Hostos Community College, and Bronx Community College.

Additionally, this program includes extracurricular activities that are related to socio-emotional well-being, building social skills, and cooperative learning. Parents and interns meet monthly during the parent-tutor night conference to discuss student’s progress and room for improvement. The Caterpillar Homework Club program is offered annually and runs from September to June. This program allows non-english speaking parents the opportunity to have their kids attend a free program that offers them the help that parents wouldn’t be able to provide due to the language barriers.

Healthy Lifestyle

Our Living A Healthy Lifestyle program provides services for families in need. Nutrition workshops are offered for the families of the bronx. These workshops educate the families on how to create healthy habits, make wise food choices, and budgeting their financial to allow them to purchase healthy foods rather than quick and easy unhealthy foods.

Families who participate in the workshops are given health bucks. Health bucks are $2 vouchers distributed by the NYC Health Department that can be used to purchase FREE fresh fruits and vegetables at designated NYC Farmers’ Markets.

Families and Nino de la Caridad, INC staff get together to walk to the neighboring Farmers Markets which include; Poe Park, Farmers Market in Fordham Plaza, and Farmers Market in the Bronx Botanical Garden.
Through this program our participants are encouraged to make healthy food choices, exercise walks to the farmers’ markets, learn how to make more health conscious food choices, and how to take initiative and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle is offered annually July to November.

Niño De La Caridad Foundation is a non-profit organization which serves children in the Bronx Community. Founded by Dr. Denise Nunez, its primary goal is to extend a helping hand to children. This foundation aims to provide a secure environment in which children are able to enhance their social skills as well as their academics.
